The Picnic Basket

One of the things that inspired me most when I read A Charlotte Mason Companion was Karen Andreola's description of the picnic, and then later, the simple but educational task of her girls making cloth napkins.

I knew as soon as I read it, I will have a picnic basket. Indeed, the next time I was out with the children we began looking for one. We did end up buying a traditional picnic basket stocked with four plates, sturdy dinnerware and cups. It was lined with a plaid fabric and closed with a leather strap. I have been using it now for about 7 years. It has been worth every cent I paid for it. I have never taken it to any outing when I didn't get a compliment! It inspires people. As Karen Andreola noted, a picnic seems to turn "any ordinary setting into a special occasion."

Willow Suitcase Picnic Basket

This picnic basket is similar to mine. I do like the suitcase shape and the fact that there are straps to hold the dinnerware in place. It is nice to have a service for four. This is what we have. If needed, you can easily add a couple more pieces of dinnerware. There is also room for food items. Believe me, you'll enjoy having a real picnic basket! I think your children will love it!
