The Gift Of Dyslexia by Ronald D. Davis

I just finished reading, from cover to cover, The Gift of Dyslexia by Ronald D. Davis (with Eldon M. Braun). Mom, Dad, if you have a child who doesn't seem to "get it" and who cannot read or cannot write or does not seem to be hearing you when you talk, I think you should read The Gift of Dyslexia. I have to tell you, I learned something from this book before I even finished the author's note at the front of the book.

This book brought things together for me to really "go at it" when teaching my child. I learned why my dyslexic child omits simple words when reading. It helped my husband and me understand why my son could read a sentence out loud but then have no idea what he had just read.

Does your dyslexic child seem to have no sense of time? Are they always late? Do they move slowly when there should be more urgency with their efforts? The Gift of Dyslexia may help you understand why this happens.

As I read on, I was shocked to discover that the child in our family we had always presumed to be ADD may actually be dyslexic. His symptoms led his early elementary teachers to seek out medication and treatment for ADHD, but now I feel he was probably "mislabeled."

To sum up, The Gift of Dyslexia gave me everything I was expecting: The reason some smart people can't read. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs, or wants, to know more about dyslexia.
