Our Study of Owl Moon
Owl Moon is a children's picture book, written by
Jane Yolen,
illustrated by John Schoenherr.
We use Five In A Row for lesson plans.
One of my favorite things about doing unit study is setting up a learning center for
the children to enjoy. They walk by the table, peep into books, pick up maps, look at models
or drawings or whatever! I find that I, too, enjoy the learning table.
Above is our Owl Moon table. We have many books, an owl call, a replica of an owl talon, and pictures to color. I
know we will add to it, too!

An Owl Moon "funny":
My 7-year-old daughter and I have really enjoyed our study of Owl Moon. Last night we were sitting on the floor
trying to make owl sounds. This went on for quite some time. Finally, my dear husband said, "Well, I have
a real owl call." We both looked at him, stunned.
"WHAT?" he replied.
"Go get it!!!!" we said.
Now we can hoot in style!
So WHAT if you live in town??
After reading Owl Moon, I told my daughter of my wish that we
could live where WE could go owling.
My daughter, wise beyond her years, replied, "Mom, it's okay!! We have hundreds of butterflies.
Remember??" And she's right. We do plant flowers that attract butterflies, and we have been very successful. So, be content with what you have! Bloom where you're planted.
However you want to say it!!
